Lichen Planus

Lichen planus is a complex mucocutaneous disease of unknown aetiology. It is a common skin disease oral lession are seen in more than 50% of affected individuals. Males and females are equally affected especially in the age group of 20 to 40 years.
Aetiology :
Though the exact aetiology is not known psychologic problems play a significant role. The lession is seen during periods of emotional stess.
The emotional factors contributing in the aetiology are fear and depression.
Treatment :

Possible lichenoid reaction to restorative materials or drugs should be ruled out. As there is no satisfactory treatment reassuring the patient is very important.
