Oral Cancer

Definition: Oral cancer is described as an ulcerated indurated lump or sore that may or may not be associated with pain and often involving the regional lymph nodes.

Aetiology :
The exact aetiology of oral cancer still remains a mystery. However, it is generally assumed that it may be multifactoral in origin. Various predispossing factors suggested in the aetiology of oral cancer are tobacco use, alcohol, chronic irritation, environmental factors such as exposure to actinic radiation; natural carcinogenic . agents; industrial pollutants etc. reverse smoking malnutrition and matabolic abnormalities associated with

alcoholism, heriditary and immune factors, plummer vinson symdrome, syphilitic glossitis, quitaminosis B etc
Treatment :
Various treatment modalities employed in the management of oral squamous cell carcinoma are :
(a) surgery (b) radiotherapy (c) chemotherapy and (d) combination of these three treatment modalities.
