Trismus

 

Definition: Trismus is defined as prolonged spasm of the masticatary muscles by which normal opening of the mouth is restricted.

Apart from trismus, the other conditions causing limited mandibular mobility or hypomobility are : (a) pscudoankylosis (mechanical interferance), (b) false ankylosis (extracapsular in origin), and (c) true ankylosis (Intracapsular in origin).
