Facial Pain

 

Musculur pain :
Muscle contraction Headache
It is associated with muscular contractions and not due to emotional tension. Pain may occure intermittently or may be continuous for months or years. The pain in often worse in the evening.
Post traumatic Headache.
This type of pain may occure due to muscle contraction, vasodilation, scar formation or injuries to the neck structures.

Other cause.
Other causes for muscular pain are trismus and myositis.

Psychogenic pain.
Atypical facial pain :
This type of pain does not follow an anatomic pattern. The pain is described as intermittent and moderate to severe pain. Pain is often felt deep in the hard tissues. Middle aged females are affected more than the males.

It may be a manifestation of depression and should be managed with antidepressant and psychotherapy. Anxiety, obsessional neurosis and hysteria are noted in these patients.
