Aplastic
Anaemia
Bleeding tendency following oral surgical procedures and increased susceptibility
to infection.
Sickle
cell Anaemia
Pale oral mucosa, manifestation of jaundice, delayed eruption and hypoplasia
of teeth and radiolucencies of the jaws in radiographs, more apparent
between the roots of teeth where the trabeculae appear horizontal (step
ladder pattern). Skull radiographs show the trabeculae which are oriented
perpendicular to the inner and outer tables (hair on end appearance).
Patients with sickle cell anaemia are more prone to develop osteomyelitis.
Thalassaemia.
Acute
leukemia :
Some of the common oral manifestations are gingival bleeding, swelling,
purpura, oral ulceration, lymphadinopathy, tonsillar swelling, infections
such as candidiasis and HSV. Side effects of drugs used Rx are menifested
as oral ulceration. dry mouth etc. There may be alveolar bone destruction
as seen in radiographs.
Oral
surgical procedures can result in excessive post-operative haemorrhage.
So platelet infusion or blood transfusion may be required. |
