Congestive Heart Failure & Dental Consideration

•  Stress should be avoided.
•  Limit the use of cardiac stimulants.
•  Lengthy procedures should be spread over several    shorter appointments.
•  Employ proper sedation.

Intective Endocarditis. It has dental significance because the microorganisms released into the blood stream during surgical procedured can cause serious infection.
Presentation :
All dental surgical procedures should be carried out under antibiotic chemoprophylaxis to prevent infective endocarditis in patients giving H/O. congenital or vascular heart disease, prosthetic heart values, previous H/O infective endocarditis etc. The following regimen is usually employed.

Adults : Amoxycillin 3 gm orally one hour before                procedure and 1.5 gm six hours after the initial                dose.

Children : 50 mg/Kg one hour before procedure and 25                 mg/Kg six hours after the initial dose.
