Hairy leukoplakia

The lesion of hairy leukoplakia was first described in San Francisco in 1984 and deserves special mention. Classically, this occurs bilaterally on the lateral margins of the tongue but it is now known that it may develop at other mucosal sites, such as the buccal mucosa and labial mucosa.
